OUR STORY In 2009 when the San Julian family moved from Mexico they initially planned to stay in South Africa for only one year. It is now 2014 and you may wonder what made this Mexican family remain in South Africa? Well, the reasons: The world cup was approaching and they missed authentic Mexican cuisine. They went out looking for some good tacos, but to their surprise, the Mexican restaurants that they found were texmex-based restaurants, which were not bad, but still not the real deal. When the Soccer World Cup was held in Cape Town in 2009, the San Julian family opened up an unpretentious and authentic Mexican restaurant that was meant only to serve during the World Cup. Their reputation soon spread and the family decided to stay, and keep the restaurant open. To date, San Julian is the only Mexican restaurant run by a Mexican family in South Africa.
